An Interesting Warning Produced by Google’s Browser, Chrome It happens when I click on some of the links on the following page, http://wordpress.org/development/2009/04/the-super-awesome-wordpress-24-hour-has-patch-marathon/ I think these links are safe. The problem is, WordPress.org is using https URLs, but the SSL certificate is invalid. What a pitiful bug!2 comments to An Interesting Warning Produced by Google’s Browser, ChromeLeave a Reply |

Howdy. Thanks for pointing this out. The links in the post were mistakingly posted at https://, they should have been http://. This has since been corrected. The certificate warning is because newer browsers fail to recognize wildcard SSL certificates (which is what we have for wordpress.org) for 3rd level subdomains. The certificate is perfectly valid, it just produces a warning in some browsers, as you experienced. Normally this isn’t a big deal, because 99% of the activity is via HTTP, the only thing we force HTTPS for is when you login and submit your username and password (for obvious reasons).
Wow! That was a quick response. Now, Problem is solved. Congratulations!
Thanks for your clear explanation. It makes sense to me. I notice that HTTPS is also wildly used for online banking.
