The maximum length of a carry-on luggage is 45″ to 55″ for most airlines.
A classical guitar with a solid case can easily reach the 45″ maximum limit.
It might not be able to fit in the overhead luggage bins.
Especially if you were boarding late, it could be a problem moving somebody’s luggage around.
So the guitar as a luggage is in the grey area.
It could be OK and it could be a problem.
If you ask a clerk if you can carry-on your guitar, you will be out of luck.
The answer will be always a big “No!”
So, what should you do?
In a nutshell:
- Don’t ask questions like, “Can I carry on my guitar?”
- Try to be the first few people inline boarding the airplane.
- Carry your guitar on your back just like a regular backpack.
Even if your guitar doesn’t fit in the overhead luggage bin, a airline stewardess will find a place to put your guitar.
The worst case scenario, they will treat it as a piece of check in luggage.
Tips:
