This is an excellent piece of music and superb for right hand arpeggio practice too.

There are some tricky places, especially when we don’t use slurs at all.

I put the strings on about 3 month ago. I used my nail polish sand paper to polish the 1st string (around the sound hole) right before this recording.

After upload the 3rd part to YouTube, I re-mix this video with my previous 2 practice recordings using YouTube Video Editor. Just for fun

YouTube Video Editor is easy to use. Everything is done in a browser. No video editing software is required.

One thing needs to be improved though.

For music video trimming, manual time input is very necessary to create seamless music connection. YouTube Video Editor only allows user drag the time bar, which is not accurate enough and time consuming. Timing is everything for musicians.

This is my 3rd attempt on this piece of study. It’s the last part this time. Music is changed from E minor to E major from here.

Etude Op.6 No.11 in E (Fernando Sor)_2, Classical Guitar Study

Music is composed by Fernando Sor. I’m practicing the 2nd part. It’s still in E minor. The 3rd part (last part) will change to E major.

This is my 2nd attempt.

The right hand arpeggio is pretty tricky at the part. My right hand fingers make some noise when I get nervous. I need to find a way to relax and improve.

Note: I just put up a set of new strings, Luthier Concert Silver Set 30. It’s a medium / hard tension set. I like the base strings.

Etude Op.6 No.11 in E (Fernando Sor)_1, Classical Guitar Study

This is a nice piece of music composed by Fernando Sor. The melody is beautiful. It starts from E minor and ends in E major.

I just start to play this classical guitar study. My focus is mostly on right hand arpeggio. The left hand fingering is a little bit tricky.

So I decide to divide this study into 3 big paragraphs. This is my 1st attempt on the first part.

Footstool vs Guitar Support, Classical Guitar Accessories

I always use footstool for classical guitar performance. Until a few weeks ago…

After I tried a few guitar support, I started to like it. A classical guitar support is light, convenient and easy to use.

I thought I was going to switch to a guitar support forever. But… a classical guitar recital changed my mind.

I was using footstool playing comfortably. My guitar neck angle was more than 45 degree to the ground. I had no problem reaching the highest note, B, at the 19th fret.

* Almost 2 years later, I sat on the same chair at the same recital hall of Chapman University. I used a guitar support this time.

I strangely felt than the chair was too high although it’s the same kind of chair I used in 2009. My guitar neck angle was less than 45 degree to the ground. I didn’t feel comfortable holding a guitar like that. Luckily, I didn’t have to reach extremely high position this time. In this case, a footstool is better than a guitar support.

My conclusion is that there are pros and cons on both footstool and guitar support. I would like to keep both and use them accordingly. Check out the following detail.

Classical guitar footstool
Pros:
The height is adjustable on most footstools. A wide range of guitar neck angle can be easily achieved by adjusting the footrest position. It fits most classical guitar players.
Footstool is the most popular accessory for classical guitar players. It’s easy to find and cheaper to buy. Regular price range from $10.00 to $50.00 USD. Most of them are under $20.00 USD.
A footstool can be folded in around one inch thick. It’s easy to carry.

Cons:
A footstool lifts up a leg which
* bends the leg to an acute angle, it’s not good for blood circulation to this leg;
* increases the pressure of hip and back;
The guitar could be slippery which depends on the cloth quality of the pants. There are accessories to fix this. But a performer has to bring up more stuffs before a performance.
It’s heavy because it is made of solid metal or wood to ensure the stability.

Classical guitar support
Pros:
Achieves a more natural sitting position. Two legs are balanced on the floor. There are no blood circulation, hip & back pressure problems like using footstools.
Classical guitar supports are usually lighter than footstools.

Cons:

Guitar neck angle range is limited comparing to use a footstool.
Guitar support suction cups could leave marks on the guitar when it is attached for a long time.
Most of guitar supports can not put in a standard classical guitar case. It has to be detached from the guitar when the guitar needs to be in the case.

Classical guitar footstool + classical guitar support combo
Pros:
It combines the good of both classical guitar footstool and support. Guitar neck can reach a wide range of angle as needed, especially steep angle.

Cons:
There are two accessories needed to be carried around.
It’s heavier to carrying around.
It’s easy to forget one while preparing.
It takes longer to setup and adjust the position.

Etude in E minor, Op.60 No.19 (Matteo Carcassi)-2, Classical Guitar Study

This is a excellent piece of classical guitar study. It’s good for right hand arpeggio practice in particular.

The melody is so obvious in this study that we need to ring the melody clear and long lasting. For the right hand, Alternating i & m fingers is a bit challenging. Make sure to keep the correct rhythm of the middle voice. Don’t play longer or shorter. Also need to keep the right hand steady and relax. That’s reason which focusing on right hand practice practice is necessary in the study.

For the left hand, there are two big jumps to the 7th fret full bar, one in the middle, another toward the end. They are not easy to do. My tip is that if we can’t bar the whole chord at the same time, then make sure the index finger of left hand position first. Do the other fingers later. For the left hand finger 1, we don’t have to bar all 6 stings tight. The 1st and 6th strings are the key. The stings in the middle are not that important. Hope this will help.
