How to Link or Unlink a Google Account from a YouTube Account

In the old days (a few years ago,) YouTube accounts were different from Google accounts. That was true even after Google acquired YouTube with 1.65 billion in stock. A YouTube user used a set of user name and password to log in, where the same user used a separate set of user name and password to log in a Google account.

Later on, Google managed to link Google accounts and YouTube accounts. A Google user could just log in once, then the linked YouTube account would log in with one single set of user name and password. It worked pretty much like today’s social network accounts.

Nowadays, Google makes it official to use only one Google account for both Google and YouTube services. Here is how to link a YouTube account to a Google account.

If a YouTube user wants to re-link his/her YouTube account to a different Google account for some reason, it can be done by following the instructions here. [sniplet download ad]

There is an exception that this link might NOT work.

If a gmail account is linked to a YouTube account, the link is unbreakable. It will show a “!” in red and

Your account is permanently linked to a Google Account

That means this Google account and YouTube account are paired up permanently. The link should never be changed.

Is there any way to get around the Google-YouTube permanent link problem?

Yes! But it’s risky.

Here is the trick: Delete either a Google account or a YouTube account. This will force to break the Google-YouTube tie.

But the risky side is that Google does NOT release the previously used user IDs for re-use. This is true for YouTube user IDs too. In this case, user has to give up at least one user ID to re-link a YouTube account to a Google account.

A Suggestion for Google’s Official Chrome Extensions

Here are all official Chrome extensions from Google,

It will be nice to provide a “shortcuts” like extension which combines as many as Google application shortcuts, then user has the option to switch either one ON or OFF.

So we don’t have to install pipes of extensions icons beside the address bar.

A Chrome extension called “My Shortcuts” does a pretty good job. But there is still plenty of room to improve.

The goal is making useful things short and clean.

My company is email system is based on Google’s popular email application, Gmail. It has been down for about an hour this afternoon.

After I received a customer’s phone call around 1PM this afternoon(Los Angeles, Pacific time), I checked my email from this customer. I could see the new email title, but I couldn’t get to the content of it after I clicked on it.

That happens sometimes. It usually go back in a few minutes.

But this time, It takes more than a lunch hour. It’s a good chance for me to have a break. Coffee will be the best after lunch.

Now, Gmail is still down!

I think these links are safe. The problem is, WordPress.org is using https URLs, but the SSL certificate is invalid. What a pitiful bug!
